Knitting Startitis

Ria asked yesterday when it was going to hit, I have been sitting on it, squashing it for weeks now, but as soon as I am 75% caught up I will cast on.

I have two Boo's to knit Hazy Dazy in Unique Sheep Cirrus gradient with celery green beads,  Buttonholes and Bows in Posh Tilda Lace with pink beads and Laura Aylors current MKAL.

Hopefully by September 1st!

Pain 1,000,000 Grace 0

I have been going through a very depressing very hurtful PAIN cycle, while up last night waiting for it to ease I wrote something about it and I am sharing it here for posterity. ( I wish this on no one, ever)

I scream at the top of my lungs
SILENTLY
So the world can continue to ignore me--
UNDISTURBED

The pain reaches deep inside of me, drawing myself inward.
I question the value of my life

I know the answers are not in a bottle
Pills or alcohol
But for all my intelligence I can not find a
SOLUTION

SO
in requisite obscurity I dutifully endure
Pain wins!

ten on Tuesday

Ten ways to stay cool during the heat wave:

  1. Dress minimally, I don't own shorts but I own lounge clothes so that is what I wear, they keep me cooler.
  2. Don't turn off the AC, it uses a lot more energy trying to get a warm room cool then keeping a cool room cool.  I don't think its been off since June 2nd when we got back from Alabama
  3. Tie my hair on top of my head.  My hair is down past my butt at this point, it is hot, it is heavy it is flyaway. I want to cut it BUT>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> so I keep it secured up on my head unless I am going out then I use a kerchief.
  4. Drink cold liquids, I still have a hot cup of rooibos every night but during the day it is water or unsweetened iced tea.
  5. Eat cooling foods, a lot of people include hot peppers in this (they make you sweat, sweat cools you) but I truly don't like them.  I just can not embrace the spicier the better craze that is sweeping this nation and the food scene. It adds no enjoyment to food for me at all.  We eat a lot of salads, and sandwiches with this weather.
  6. Keep the blinds down, I would love to let the sun in, but let the sun in let the heat in, I remember the days of awnings and wish places still used them regularly, then I could see outside once in while
  7. Avoid being outdoors for long periods of time.  Since my son has my car I only leave if Tom is home but his van is not air conditioned so even that isn't always a great plan,
  8. Eat ice cream.  I do have to admit our ice cream consumption is up a bit this year  we like plain old Breyer's all natural vanilla with fruit
  9. Save big out door projects for autumn, no sense getting dehydrated when the project can wait.
  10. Remember to offer people coming and going water and cooling clothes if needed.  A cool wash cloth on the neck goes a long way to making someone comfortable.

How do you stay cool?

In words

Watching...the days of summer go by way to fast, don't want to see snow except on Christmas Eve.

Reading... a few books by Lori Wilde, Hope Ramsey and Betty Hechtman
Knitting...too many things, I have 4 shawls on the needles, a pair of mitts, and charity baby hats
Listening to...the sounds of the air conditioner, I may love the summer but only if it air conditioned
Drinking...homemade iced tea and lots of water
Eating...garden produce. lots of fresh picked tomatoes, corn from a local stand, and lots of fruit .
Planning...to cut my hair soon for Locks of Love and then dying it some bright, off the wall color
Itching to...fly away on a vacation but that is not going to happen
Organizing...my knitting, there are always piles of it everywhere
Delighted by...seeing the pictures by son posted of the sussex county fair  .
Celebrating...Jason Day winning the PGA his first ever major, Jordan Speith being #1 in the PGA, and Tom blocking two more shawls for me!

My Newest passion Peacocks!

I joined a strutting peacock CAL (create a  long) on the Gorgeous Gradients forum on Ravelry and have become obsessed with Peacocks.  I want everything I can find that speaks of peacocks.  There was a drawing today for a project bag by EweSewandSew but I didn't win,  I found two peacock lamps at Montgomery Wards but I didn't buy them.  I love Peacock colors, especially the gradients as opposed to varigated or stripes.  I am using Freia Hand Paint Lace in Vertigo, Maple and Claret and piecing them together to get the effect I want and I am knitting Lankankermo's Panache pattern,  one that I have made in the past years ago but Loved doing.  Here are all kinds of peacock photos to amuse you.

The cakes are awesome and the lego display was in England---it is fabulous!!!

$$$$ for a Wonderful cause

This was on my daughter Jeanne's face book page this morning and I thought I would share it here on my blog.

"We just need a few more donations to make our team goal! We plan to push Maisie in her stroller since its quite a distance, but she will walk across her finish line!! Thanks to the wonderful treatment she has been receiving! Your donations will help doctors to learn the right treatments and make sure every baby with DDH can walk across their finish lines!  Hip Hop for healthy Hips   Click on the link for even more information on how you can help this worth while cause ."

these two pictures show two of her harnesses that she has had to wear in the past 17 months.  She also was casted from the waist down for over a month and it will be September before we know how much longer she will be in a brace.  She has been a trooper through it all and has even learned to walk with and without the brace.

Please think about making even a small donation to this worthy cause.

weekending

we did very little and I never think to photograph the few things we do,

Friday night Tom made french toast and sausages and we watched The 5th element for the 555th time.
Saturday I waddled my way to his van, hoisted myself in with the help of the running board and the "oh Sh*t " handle and we went to breakfast.  That was enough physical activity for me, climbing in and out twice so I kind of just sat and knitted away the day, with occasional computer breaks.  Tom spent most of the day napping or cooking, he made a delicious earl grey plum cobbler, a barbecued pork meatloaf and fresh corn off the cob.  It was the BEST meatloaf I have ever had.  We spend Saturday evening watching Star Trek: The Next Generation.
Sunday dawned to early with a trip for Tom to the laundromat, and then the breakfast trip was repeated.  A phone call from Rob said that he would need the car only a couple more days but whatever it takes is fine with me. Debb called too, we hadn't spoken to her in awhile so it was nice to catch up.  Tom picked up some yarn at Michael's for the borders of the blanket I am making him (all out of scraps but not enough acrylic in any color but pink for a border) and some prescriptions at the drug store.  We settled in to an afternoon of Golf---Congrats Troy Merritt on your first win in 136 starts, and then the Matrix for the 777th time. Yesterday's culinary feat, was sausage that came out so badly it never made it to the table, and roasted spinach gnocchi that were absolutely delicious.  And very easy.  I love spinach and any time I can get Tom to eat it I am thrilled.  Of course I continued knitting taking a break over the BEST meatloaf sandwich ever to color on National Coloring Day,  Tom hung some rods in the kitchen to hang utensils off of, he did a great job with it.

SO nothing earth shattering but I still wrote home about it!!!
